The Edo Sakura

The Edo Sakura is a Japanese ryokan-style inn in the Shitaya district to the north of JR Ueno Station. This is a comfortable, modern hotel in a quiet area that has been designed to resemble a wooden townhouse of old Tokyo. This hotel offers an authentic experience of Japanese hospitality and service, with cozy, traditional rooms, staff who are extremely friendly and informative, and cultural facilities such as the family bath, inner garden, and tea room. This location is also convenient for local transport and also for Ueno Park and its many museums.

The Edo Sakura has 30 guest rooms. Most guest rooms are traditional Japanese style with tatami mat flooring and futon bedding. However, there are also Western style rooms with twin beds.

All rooms are non-smoking. All rooms are supplied with air-conditioning and heating, a TV, a telephone, a refrigerator, a safe for your valuables, an electric kettle with tea-making amenities, a hair dryer, and a yukata style bathrobe. All rooms have their own private bathroom and toilet. Some rooms have showers, and some rooms have bathtub shower combinations. All bathrooms are supplied with towels, shampoo, shower gel, and complimentary toiletries such as toothbrushes and disposable shaving razors.

Breakfast & Dining

Breakfast is available in the first floor dining room from 7.30 to 9.30. For 800 yen you can choose a Japanese style set meal with fish, rice, soup, and side dishes, or a Western style set meal with sausages, eggs, and thick-cut toast.

For other meals there a number of restaurants in the hotel’s vicinity which include a sushi restaurant, a yakitori grilled chicken restaurant, a casual izakaya style tavern, as well as Chinese and Indian restaurants. There is also a 24-hour Ministop convenience store where you can pick up cheap snacks and drinks which is just one minute from the hotel.

Other Services & Facilities

Friendly, English-speaking staff are on duty at the front desk from 7.00 to 23.00 each day. Staff will be happy to help you with sightseeing tips, or to help you book restaurants or taxis. Check-in time is between 15.00 and 23.00, and check-out time is between 7.00 and 11.00. Luggage can be stored at the front desk before checking in and after checking out.

The hotel’s traditional inner garden can be viewed from the lobby or the dining room on the 1st floor.
This hotel has a traditional tearoom. Guests who wish to participate can join a tea ceremony each morning at 10.00 am.

This hotel has a self-service laundry with coin-operated machines. For a dry cleaning service, ask at the front desk.

There is a large family bath which can be booked privately for an extra charge of 500 yen for 40 minutes. The bath is available between 15.00 and 23.00.

Location

The Edo Sakura is located in the Shitaya district to the north of JR Ueno Station. It is a 15 minute walk from the Iriya Exit of JR Ueno Station, 10 minutes from Uguisudani Station on the JR Yamanote and Keihintohoku lines, and 5 minutes from Iriya Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
