Space Hostel Tokyo

Space Hostel Tokyo is a cheap, clean and friendly hostel in the Kitaueno area to the north of JR Ueno Station. First opened in 2015 this hostel is well-equipped with a kitchen, lounge space, and rooftop terrace. This hostel is convenient both for local transport and attractions in Ueno, and is also within walking distance of Asakusa. Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, and the “Kitchenware Street” of Kappabashi Dougu-gai can all be easily on foot reached from this location.

Rooms and Dormitories

Space Hostel Tokyo has both private rooms and dormitory beds. Single bunk beds can be rented in both mixed dormitories and the female only dormitory. Each bunk bed is supplied with a privacy curtain, a reading light, power outlets, and a locker for your possessions. The private Quadruple Room has four bunk beds and a private toilet. The private Family Room has eight bunk beds.

Bathrooms and showers are shared and are supplied with hairdryers, and free shampoo and body soap. Towels can be rented for 150 yen. Disposable having razors and toothbrush sets can be purchased for 100 yen each. Ear plugs are also available for 100 yen.

Self-Catering & Dining

This hostel has a self-catering kitchen area which is stocked with a refrigerator, a microwave oven, an induction cooker, bowls, dishes, plates, chopsticks, forks, and spoons. Coffee and green tea are free.

There are a large number of cafes and eateries in the area around the hostel, including restaurants serving Japanese, Italian, Korean and Thai cuisine. There is also a 7-11 convenience store just 2 minutes from the hostel where you can get cheap snacks, drinks, and other groceries.

Other Services & Facilities

The front desk is open between 8.00 and 23.00 and has friendly English-speaking staff. Luggage storage is available before checking in and after checking out. Check-in time is from 15.00 and check-out time is by 11.00.

This hostel has a 24-hour lounge space which is comfortably furnished and has free-use computers. This is an excellent space for meeting other international travelers.

There is a self-service laundry just across the street from the hostel which has coin-operated machines.

Free classes in Japanese, origami, and calligraphy are frequently held in the shared lounge area.

There is a roof-top terrace with seating and a pleasant city view which is open between 8.30 and 22.00.

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the building.

Rental bicycles are available which are free for the first 3 hours.

Location

Space Hostel Tokyo is a 4 minute walk from Iriya Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, a 10 minute walk from TX Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express Line, and a 12 minute walk from the Iriya Exit of JR Ueno Station. Uguisudani Station on the JR Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku Lines is also just a 10 minute walk from the hostel. Here is a map showing the location.
